Cupping

Cupping is a treatment modality used commonly in Chinese Medicine, as well as many other cultures. It is used as an adjunct to acupuncture treatment, and might be chosen for several different reasons.  Some examples are: cupping on the back over the lung area to break up phlegm from a cold, or on the lower back for lumbar/hip pain.  The cups form a mild vacuum, and bring qi and blood to the area, to address the problem of concern.  Sometimes they are left over an area, and sometimes they are moved around (“sliding cups”), which feels more like a deep tissue massage.
