I’m Dr. Nancy Byrne, Licensed Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbalist, and Yamuna®

practitioner.

My goal is to help you feel like the best version of you, free from physical and emotional stress & pain. This is accomplished by helping you to create space in your body, heart and mind.

I’ve fused Acupuncture and Body Rolling to create AcuRolling, a fun way to help you feel better…FAST.

Acupuncture and Yamuna Body Rolling are two of my passions.  I discovered both when I was seemingly lost.

In my twenties, I was miserable at my corporate job, and confused about my direction. I was anxious and depressed because friends were advancing in their careers, and I was clueless about my future.  I was in physical and emotional pain that very few could see, doctors couldn’t figure out, and culture told me to hide.  I felt lost, but my curiosity and quest for answers guided me.

Eventually a doctor sent me to a nutritionist who planted the seed for Acupuncture.  Before finding Acupuncture school, a desire for travel, the courage to leave my big girl job that made me feel small, and cool friends who did the same, led me to backpacking Europe for 3 months.  All the while putting my pain and discomfort aside. We landed in Europe on 9/11/2001.  My NYC office building was on Wall Street…so following my desires led me right out of the path of hell in more ways than one. Returning to NYC three months later, I had the strong message that life is sacred, and life is short.. There was a crossroads before me ….What are you gonna do with your life?

I asked myself: what did I love to do? What career would make me happy?

I had recently discovered the joy and anxiety relief that working out provided, and my father loved his track coaching career, so I started working at a boutique gym with the goal to become a personal trainer.  I noticed small red balls on the fancy bamboo stretching mats, that no one was using.  Led by curiosity, I approached the fitness manager to ask about them. She handed me a VHS tape (yes – VHS- can you believe that was only 20 years ago?!) and said, “I’m so glad you asked – go home and learn all about it.” That night I popped Yamuna’s Total Body Rolling workout in my VCR, and never looked back.  It began with rolling the hamstrings – I started with my right leg and immediately saw it get visibly longer than my left!  I giggled in awe.  I was hooked.

I started rolling myself at the gym.  I couldn’t believe that I had no pain, stiffness, or awkward cowboy walk after taking an intense spin class for the first time in a long time.  All because I rolled!

Soon after, I began taking Yamuna Body Rolling training to learn more.  I saw women’s faces lift after rolling their side body – and never even touching their face!  My chronic pain and bladder symptoms immediately felt better after doing an ab lifting routine (link to video).  I had the serendipitous opportunity to  be a body model for Yamuna’s class for a few minutes – I felt my entire back loosen up from her healing touch on my feet.  Incredible.

Around this time I became a personal trainer and group exercise instructor and I loved working with people.  I soon realized I wanted to do more, and researched returning to school.  While looking into massage schools, Acupuncture schools kept popping up. Acupuncture? Needles? Scary!  At the time I chose not to go to Nursing school because I hated needles…true story.   Again – my curiosity guided me.  I sat in on a Chinese Medical theory class and I felt like I was home. I signed up for my first treatment and I signed up for a 4 year Masters program in Chinese Medicine. After graduating in 2008 and acquiring 12 years of experience in clinical practice, I returned to school to receive my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture school gave me a deeper understanding of Yamuna’s work, and Yamuna’s work gave me a deeper understanding about Acupuncture.  Once I asked Yamuna if she was aware that she was rolling along the the acupuncture channels.  And she responded,

“Oh yes…when I work on someone and then they get acupuncture

…..they FLY!”

After finding my way, and nearly 20 years in the wellness industry, and over 17 years of clinical experience in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, I’m thrilled to be your guide.
